Judith’s experiences as a performer, her musical knowledge and her technical, supportive teaching methods make her a sought after voice teacher for students of all levels, backgrounds and vocal styles.

Teaching Philosophy

Learning and building an excellent vocal technique is important for all styles of singing as it will strengthen, and expand the vocal instrument as well as developing tone control and vocal stamina which will prevent injury and promote good vocal health.

My teaching approach is holistic (working on the whole body) – using technical and physiological explanation and information as well as the use of demonstration and imagery to help facilitate everything in a clear and natural way.

I welcome students of all levels of development – from beginner to professional.

Lessons are given in a relaxed and very enjoyable atmosphere. Singing is fun!

My method of teaching is Classical (Bel Canto) – using classical vocal exercises and repertoire that may include (depending on the individual voice and needs of the student)  Operatic, Oratorio, Art Song (Italian, German Lieder, French Melodie, English Song, etc.of all periods and styles. I will also be happy to work on Broadway (musical theatre) and Jazz selections.

Lessons

Lessons are tailored to the individual needs, goals, and interests of the singer.
Lessons may consist of (but are not limited to) :

  • Techniques of breath support and control
  • Proper alignment of the body and good posture
  • Tension release  –  relaxing the body and eliminating all negative physical and vocal tension.
  • Building and coordinating necessary muscles for beautiful tone production, control, and articulation as well as dramatic expression.
  • Expanding the vocal and dynamic range of the voice.
  • Obtaining a seamless, smooth and clear tone throughout the whole range of the voice (understanding the registrations of the voice and learning to blend them – including  dealing with the areas of passaggio.
  • Increasing resonance and projection of tone
  • Developing excellent intonation (pitch control)
  • Building the flexibility of the voice

Lessons also may include attention to ear training, note reading and sight singing, and basic music theory.

Attention will be paid to promoting good diction (without interfering with tone quality) in English, Italian, German, French, and Spanish.

Repertoire – selection of repertoire for the voice – vocal, musical and dramatic coaching of repertoire (technical, stylistic, interpretive and musical).

Preparation for auditions and concert, recital, and operatic performances
